Trenchless Sewer Line Replacement Versus Open Cut Excavation Method
Replacing sewer lines? Trenchless sewer line repair can can save you hundreds of dollars!
The two types of sewer line replacement methods are trenchless sewer lateral replacement (also called Cured in Place Pipe or CIPP pipe lining) and open cut excavation sewer line replacement.
“Trenchless sewer pipe repair costs up to 50% less than traditional excavation, removal and pipe replacement services.“

When a pipe is only damaged by root intrusion or corrosion, trenchless sewer replacement can usually be performed from an access point in your basement.
This enables our trenchless technology specialists to access, clean, and reline the pipe without digging into your yard or disturbing your landscaping.
When a pipe is broken or collapsed, or in a location not accessible from your basement, open cut excavation is performed to access and replace only the damaged section of sewer line.
For example, if only 5 feet of a 100-foot long sewer line is damaged, we use camera inspection to accurately identify the damaged section; then replace the damaged pipe and install a cleanout access point; then reline the entire pipe with a long-lasting, patented Perma-Liner™ pipe lining system.
Whichever method of replacing a sewer line is used, you can be assured that our team of certified drain layers and Perma-Liner™ Installers will provide expert advice and repair estimates, and keep your new sewer line cost fair, to afford you great value and peace of mind.
Steps of the Cured In Place (CIPP) Pipe Lining Process
These steps of our non-invasive CIPP sewer pipe relining process avoids the cost of expensive cleanup and replacement of landscaping or infrastructure, and leaves no mess behind.
-
- Create a minimally-invasive access point in the pipe
- Conduct a video pipeline inspection to pinpoint the location of pipe damage
- Clean the pipe to remove roots, dirt, debris or other objects that could affect the pipe lining
- Measure the damaged section
- Custom-cut the new liner and calibration tube to precisely fit the pipe
- Insert the resin-saturated felt sleeve into the damaged pipe
- Apply air pressure, allowing the resin to bond and seal to the existing/host pipe
- The calibration tube serves as a balloon to keep the liner in place as it cures
- Once curing is complete, remove the calibration tube
- Test the new CIPP pipe restoration, to ensure that it’s ready for service
